2018-19 school year marks my 30th year of teaching high school art! I believe that every student is an artist. In my classes I strive to make a physically and emotionally safe environment for every student to create art while learning necessary skills and techniques to be successful. As a former college athlete I try to find ways to use sports analogies among other tangable and relevent examples to better explain the concepts and ideas we learn in art. Students will come away with tools to help them express their ideas visually as well as being actively engaged with art, culture, and history that is meaningful to their present lives.
I have an Associate of Arts in Illustration from San Francisco City College(1982), a Bachelors of Fine Art from San Francisco State University in painting and printmaking,(1986) as well as studying painting at the Academy of Art in San Francisco and at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. I hold a Masters in International Education from Framingham State University in Massachusetts (1991). Prior to more than 20 years teaching in San Leandro, I taught at Balboa High School in San Francisco and at the American School of Sao Paulo in Brazil, where I lived for 8 years.
I am a product of pulic school, a native to the bay area, graduating from Berkeley High School. I am blessed to work with the diverse population of eager artists at San Leandro High School. Please feel free to call or e-mail anytime with questions or concerns about your child's art education.
