Lance James is a husband, a parent with two children in San Leandro schools, and a Hayward Unified School District elementary school teacher, where he serves on the School Site Council member, is a Site-Based Decision Making member, and an Executive Board member, site representative, and negotiator for the Hayward Education Association.
He and his wife, Robin, were named Volunteers of the Year at their children’s school, Roosevelt Elementary, inSan Leandro, where they spent many hours volunteering in their children’s and many other classrooms, and in the Roosevelt Theater.
Lance began his working career as a stage performer. After his career was cut short due to injuries, Lance worked as the manager of a dance company, a tour manager, and as stage manager for a local theater. After years volunteering in classrooms and his increased involvement in the educational environment as an active parent, Lance made the decision to return to school to get an elementary school teaching credential.
Through his experiences as a parent, volunteer, teacher and union member, Lance understands the needs of students, teachers and schools. “Both face real challenges,” Lance says, “due to state and federal mandates we have little local control over.” His desire is to make sure that the educational needs of all our students are met, especially in these demanding budgetary times.
Lance says, “I believe in working collaboratively; and in building partnerships of students, parents, faculty, staff, administration and the board. I believe in our public schools and I will work hard for our students as we prepare them for the challenges they face. I am looking forward to serving our San Leandro community.”
