Welcome to another exciting year of learning, connecting and achieving in the San Leandro Unified School District. As a community, we are focused on building a “Culture of Excellence” as detailed in our three-year Strategic Action Plan. With year one complete, we are proud of our many accomplishments including receiving the distinguished AP District of the Year Award from the College Board, expanding opportunities for early bilingual education and infusing socio-emotional learning in our classrooms. Our ultimate goal is to prepare students, both academically and socially, to be life-long learners, effective communicators and responsible and involved citizens.
As we look to the future, we recognize the importance of our broader community in supporting our students and educators through positive reciprocal relationships. Feedback and consistent communication between schools and families is imperative as we work to build bridges between home and school. In Spring 2018, we embarked on an extensive survey of students, families and staff and had our highest response rate of any survey undertaken to date. This engagement is the foundation for our collaborative work, and we look forward to sharing, in the months to come, the key learnings from the survey and our action steps. Facility improvements are also underway at all campuses, thanks to the voters in San Leandro for passing Measure J1 in November 2016. I invite you to review our bond project updates, the details of our strategic plan and other exciting information about SLUSD by visiting our website at www.slusd.us.
In addition, as we start the school year, please take a moment to review this handbook. The handbook, including the Annual Notice to Parents, serves as the required notification to students and parents on specific education and government codes, and provides information about our District’s many programs and policies. Parents/Legal Guardians are expected to review this document carefully and keep it as a reference throughout the school year. This handbook is one method of communication, among many, that staff and I use to keep our families informed.
As always, we welcome your feedback, the full staff directory is listed on our website at www.slusd.us. We are looking forward to another year of transformative learning and achievement throughout the San Leandro School District.
