Degrees and Certifications:

May/June, 2019

Dear SLUSD Families,
As this exceptional 2018-19 school year comes to a close, and I reflect on the many accomplishments we have celebrated together in this monthly newsletter, I am struck by the sheer number of people I have to thank for their support in building our culture of excellence. Our students continue to accumulate impressive awards and recognitions, both inside and outside the classroom. I am so deeply inspired, yet unsurprised, at their capacity for learning and achieving. These achievements are only made possible with a dedicated, hardworking staff of teachers, administrators and support personnel. I consider myself truly fortunate to work with educators of the caliber we enjoy in SLUSD. Most importantly, our success is built on a strong foundation of family and community engagement. Whether at the voting booth where we have received generous financial backing for our initiatives, or in the schools where our parents work side-by-side as true partners in educating our students, I cannot thank everyone enough for all you do for our schools.
As much as we are all looking forward to a safe, restful, and well-deserved summer, I hope you share my excitement for the 2019-20 school year. We have many more goals to realize, more facilities to improve, and many more awards to win. We will continue to operationalize our SLUSD Graduate Profile to ensure our students are ready to demonstrate that they are Cultural and Ethical Leaders, Critical Thinkers, Communicators and Collaborators and have a Healthy Mind and Body. I have considered it a privilege to work for and with you as your superintendent for the past six years. Given what we have done in that short time, our future feels limitless.
Mike McLaughlin, Ed.D.
