High school is an integral time for students to think about the career they would like to pursue after graduation. As they are growing up, students are constantly asked "What do you want to do when you grow up?" This is not an easy question to answer. Many high school students are unsure of what career path to pursue or often change their mind about their career interests. The purpose of the Career Exploration section of the Counseling page is to connect students to resources that can assist them identify interests and abilities, which can help in the discovery of the career they may like to attain.
***Please note that any of San Leandro High School students can come to the College & Career Center for career exploration assistance, which is open Mon-Thurs 9:00am-5:00pm.***
As we meet with students individually throughout the year, one of the resources that we use is Naviance. This is a comprehensive K-12 college and career readiness solution that helps districts and schools align student strengths and interests to postsecondary goals, improving student outcomes and connecting learning to life.
You can follow the below instructions to do a career exploration activity.
Activity 1: Students can log into Naviance by going into the school website at www.SLHS.net, clicking on the Students tab and then select the Naviance link. User name is first name + first initial of last name + last 5 digits of permanent ID number. Password is the student's 8 digit birthdate. A screenshot of the home screen is below.
Now click on the "careers" tab, you will see the below screen. From here students can explore careers and clusters and complete a career interest profiler. This is a great resource for students to see that there are multiple roles within a field of interest and connect interests and abilities to a potential career.
The Naviance site can also be reached at https://www.naviance.com/.
