    SLUSD Appreciates San Leandro Community for Measure I Support

    San Leandro Unified School District is celebrating a big win for their schools today. The San Leandro community came out to support their parcel tax, Measure I, which passed last night at 72.89%. Even though the celebrations are qualified, with 15% of ballots yet to be counted, the district expressed the need to be proactive in appreciating voters who responded positively to their financial need.

    SAN LEANDRO, CA: The California Department of Education (CDE) has announced the annual release of the summary reports for the 2017–18 English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC). The public will access to 2017–18 ELPAC reports on the CDE DataQuest reporting website at https://dq.cde.ca.gov/dataquest/. The webpage will display the state, county, district, and school-level ELPAC reports for the 2017–18 administration.

    NBC Bay Area news crews recently visited San Leandro High School to tour the newly remodeled state-of-the-art broadcasting studio with the award-winning twin principals, Drs. Ronald and Reginald Richardson. Reporter Bob Redell and team came to hear more about the Advanced Placement District of the Year award that was presented to San Leandro district administrators and teachers this summer in Houston, TX. The Richardsons used the opportunity to showcase the newly remodeled broadcasting studio as an example of the district’s commitment to increasing access and equity not only in advanced academic programming but also in real-world work opportunities through the many career pathway options at SLHS.

    60 new teachers are joining the San Leandro Unified School District for the 2018-19 school year. At their annual new teacher orientation event at the Barbara Lee Health and Wellness Center, the excited group was welcomed by their district and site leaders to prepare for the 2018-19 school year. Each had been personally invited via phone by SLUSD district superintendent Dr. Michael McLaughlin prior to the event.

    EBMUD Verifies Safe Drinking Water in San Leandro Unified Schools

    Last January, San Leandro Unified School District took advantage of a free state testing program to have all of their schools’ drinking water tested for lead. This move was a proactive response to State Assembly Bill 746, which went into effect January 1, 2018, requiring all public schools in California to have their water tested for the presence of lead. None of the school sites within the district exceeded the federal standard of 15 parts per billion.
