    Good afternoon Wilson students and families, this is Principal Quock with important announcements for the week of February 11, 2019.  

    The posters for No Name Calling week remind us that you have to decide everyday which kind of kid you are. Will you be kind to others? Will you use empathy when you act and speak to others?  Will you be just and do the right thing when you need to be an ally to others? Wilson School is committed to being a place where it is safe to be who we are. Our whole community: teachers, staff, families and students are dedicated to equity, care, and opportunity: this is what we love about Wilson!

    Please join our Parent Teacher Committee at our Multi-Cultural Fair planning meeting Monday, February 11 at 8:20am in the Teacher’s Lounge.

    All 5th grade parents and guardians interested in coming to Science Camp as chaperones MUST attend a MANDATORY meeting on Tuesday, February 12, 5:30-6:00 pm in Room 18 (Ms. Shaw’s room).

    Please join us for Book and Blanket Night, February 12, 6:00pm to 7:00pm.

    Our next English Learner Advisory Committee meeting is Friday, February 15 in Room 28A at 8:30 am. 

    The California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) is an anonymous, confidential survey of school climate and safety, student wellness, and youth resiliency. Families are invited to take the survey online or onsite at Wilson between the dates of February 4-15. All 5th to 11th grade students, as well as all parents and staff district-wide, are being asked to participate. Families may take the survey at Wilson all this week from 8:00am to 9:30am in Room 15.     San Leandro Unified School District will be offering a FREE 12-Week R3 Academy Fatherhood Class taking place at the Barbara Lee Center for Health and Wellness, 2251 Bancroft Ave., San Leandro starting Tuesday, Feb. 26, at 6:00-8:00pm. Dads will learn relationship and parenting skills, tips on supporting school success, money management skills and job search skills. Please contact our Parent Facilitator, Angelica Franco for more information.

    Reminder: next week, February 18-22, there is no school for President’s Week holiday.

  • SLUSD Wants To Hear From You!

    Do you have opinions on how the San Leandro Unified School District spends money but don’t know how to take action? Join us at one of our upcoming Local Control Accountability Plan (LCAP) community forums to have your say! These events provide the district leadership team with crucial feedback regarding the current state of the district. These dialogues are an incredible learning opportunity for the superintendent and other district staff to listen and learn about how parents and community members are feeling about SLUSD schools at the elementary, middle and high school levels. In fact, much of the feedback informs decision making for SLUSD. Translation, childcare, refreshments will be provided at all meetings.

    SEEKING VOLUNTEERS!

    If you are interested in working in any of our classrooms and our lunches/recesses, or events, our elementary schools are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers! Our schools especially need support for 30-60 minutes at a time in the classroom, during recess, and during lunch.

    Warm Wishes to Families in Need from John Muir Middle School

    Students from John Muir Middle School in partnership with the San Leandro Education Foundation (SLED) have been preparing for the holidays by giving back to their community. Students collected over $3,000 in cash donations which were used to purchase gift cards, clothing, toys, blankets, and other holiday items for 22 John Muir families in need.

    Measure I Steering Committee Recognized by San Leandro Unified

    At Tuesday night’s SLUSD school board meeting, the members of the Measure I Steering Committee were presented with special recognition awards for helping secure overwhelming community support to restore essential school funding and protect the quality of education in the district’s schools. Measure I was approved by voters with a 75.08% approval rate, which is one of the largest percentages of “yes” votes in the district’s history.
